pursuit of an education. There were times when he even provided transportation. So many have overcome obstacles and moved on to better things because of Roy.”
Roy Britton, volunteer and teacher in the GED program at SS, “I am humbled and grateful for the camaraderie and all the wonderful people that I have met here. I hope I can live up to your praises. After I retired from JJC three years ago, I continue to work here. This is an extension of my ministry and I consider all of you my extended family.”
Dawn Barr, 15-year service award, “I want to thank Pete McLenighan and Paul Lauridsen for their vision and the fact that SS is here to help. It is a privilege being here You don’t just have a job here, you have an extended family.”
Executive Director Pete McLenighan commenting on Clinical Director Paul Lauridsen’s contribution to SS, “ Paul is a progressive person, someone who selectively implements evidence-based practices. The field has changed so much in the last 25 years. Some of the things were new that Paul said ‘yes’ to - and his leadership has made all the difference. With Paul’s leadership, we went from idea to client treatment plans. Paul has high standards, a strong work ethic. He is patient, honest, persistent and courageous.”
Clinical Director Paul Lauridsen, 20-year service award, “ I could not be more proud than to be a part of SS. There is so much to be proud of here - the staff, the facility, our role in the community. With the work we do, the details can wear you down. One of the biggest criticisms of the field is that the process if often important than the client. It is a credit to everyone here at SS that the client is more important.”
Marilyn Feehan, 25-year service award, “ I love my job here. (Currently, a transportation provider,) I’ll be here forever. SS is a good place to work with the staff and board. When I drive clients to appointments, I get to know them. I listen and I recognize that glimmer of hope in their eyes when it hits them - that they are going to make it.”

At a recent holiday party, staff shared their feelings. Office Manager Theresa Harrison, serving as emcee, recalled a quote from Maya Angelou, ‘You shouldn’t go through life with catchers mitts on both hands - you have to learn how to throw things back.’ Well, these people here today - the staff and volunteers of Stepping Stones, do know how to throw things back, how to give back and make things happen.”
Executive Director Pete McLenighan honoring volunteer Roy Britton, “Roy brought the GED program here to SS. We all know that not having a high school diploma can be a barrier to a better life. Roy started volunteering and working with the clients. He helped them overcome their fears, concerns and prepare to make that step towards the future with the completion of a GED and the
